"I shoot slugs from my brain just like a rifle"

[Nas]
Street's disciple, my raps are trifle
I shoot slugs from my brain just like a rifle
Stampede the stage, I leave the microphone split
Play Mr. Tuffy while I'm on some Pretty Tone shit
Verbal assassin, my architect pleases
When I was twelve, I went to hell for snuffin Jesus
Nasty Nas is a rebel to America
Police murderer, I'm causin hysteria
My troops roll up with a strange force
I was trapped in a cage and let out by the Main Source
Swimmin in women like a lifeguard
Put on a bulletproof nigga I strike hard
Kidnap the President's wife without a plan
And hangin niggaz like the Ku Klux Klan
I melt mics till the sound waves over
Before steppin to me you'd rather step to Jehovah
Slammin MC's on cement
Cause verbally, I'm iller than a AIDS patient
I move swift and uplift
your mind shoot the gift when I riff in rhyme
Rappin sniper, speakin real words
My thoughts react, like Steven Spielberg's
Poetry attacks, paragraphs punch hard
My brain is insane, I'm out to lunch God
Science is dropped, my raps are toxic
My voicebox locks and excels like a rocket

I'm going to start off the blog with perhaps one of the best verses on a posse cut ever. Hell, its arguably the best. This is one of those verses that has withstood the test of time. Evertime I hear "Live at the BBQ" by Main Source I get all geeked up for Nas' opening verse. Everytime I hear this verse its so powerful its like I got kicked in the gut. And this some 13 or 14 years after I first heard this song! As you can imagine the first time I heard this verse it kicked me in the package, slapped me around and laid me out. After I got up it kicked my ass all over again. "Verbal assassin, my architect pleases, When I was twelve, I went to hell for snuffin Jesus." Is he serious? Religious or not, how great is that line? There has to be no fewer than half a dozen (if not more) killer lines in this verse. Although this was when Nasty Nas first came out, he was clearly at his peak here and on "Illmatic". Check "Live a the BBQ" and be prepared to catch a lyrical beatdown.

Welcome!

Like I don't have enough trouble staying current with my main blog ( http://doncialini.blogspot.com) I decided to start another one. Taking my inspiration from my good friend Mr. William H. Shannon and his golden age hip hop video blog ( http://goldenagehiphop.blogspot.com ) I'm starting this blog to showcase some of the better verses that can be found in rap music. Its way too easy to do a blog listing top songs, so here I will highlight verses from songs you may know and songs you may not know. Of course all suggestions are welcome. I'm not looking for popular verses, but verses that stand out, that are creative, make you say "damn did he just say that", ones that shine above others in a posse cut. A verse you remember year after year after year. So sit back and keep checking back for regular updates!
